IRREPLACEABLE · BOOK TO LIFE

Why we practise.

Why this app exists

Irreplaceable is a book about who you're becoming in a world of algorithms. Reading about it isn't the same as doing it. This is where you practise.

Say the true thing, kindly. Notice someone. Sit with your own question. Try a little here, then put the phone down and take it into real life. Short visits are the point.

What it is not

Not a test. Not therapy. Not social media. There are no leaderboards and no scores for your feelings. Your words are not posted or shared with other players. Go First never sends messages for you — it helps you find your own words, and you decide what to do with them. Tell May sends only the note you explicitly choose to send to May Lee.

Your privacy

Your journals and practice answers are separate from Tell May notes you choose to send.

Private — your answers are never shared with other players, parents or teachers.

Your answers and progress are stored on this device and, if you sign in, in your private account so you can use other devices. Sealed future-self letters are stored in your account, not in device progress. Your answers are never shown to other players, never shared, never sold and never used for ads.

Answers are not sent to AI except the Rewrite Challenge text you choose to submit for feedback: the phrase, any context you add, and your rewrite. Leave out names and personal details. Built-in tips stay on this device.

Voice is turned into text by your browser and never stored by us. Your browser may use its own speech service to process your voice. We save only the words you choose to save.

The app's operators can technically access stored data to run and protect the service, but will not read your answers except if required by law or to keep someone safe. This does not mean we monitor your answers or can send help.

If you choose to approve a parent link, they see participation counts only, never your answers. You can stop sharing those counts at any time.

You can delete everything at any time: use Clear this device for locally stored answers and progress, or Delete my account and answers in your account for your saved account data. Clear any other devices you have used too. Guest answers cannot be recovered after clearing.

Tell May is different

Notes you send through Tell May are read by May Lee. They are not shared with anyone else.

These notes are separate from your private journal and linked to your account and display name. May's replies appear inside the app. When email sending is enabled, Tell May notes and limited excerpts will be sent to May's email through our email service for her weekly review; flagged alerts include your display name and date, not the note text. Your private journal never appears in these emails. Account deletion also deletes your Tell May notes.

Tell May is not an urgent help service. May reads once a week. For anything urgent, talk to someone today.

For parents and teachers

Read a chapter together. Each do the Home Mission. Ask, don't read: “What stayed with you?” leaves room for an answer; checking their private writing doesn't.

Let your teen choose what to tell you. The app is a companion to the book, not a replacement for reading, conversation or being together. You don't need to monitor points or make every visit a lesson.

Need to talk?

Talking to someone is not a sign something is wrong with you. Start with someone you trust — a parent, teacher, school counsellor or friend's parent.
